JAM Pac and DM François Guimont having some fun

On Tuesday morning, September 20th, Deputy Minister François Guimont launched the 2011 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) for the region. The launch took place at the Douglas Jung Building in downtown Vancouver, accompanied by a live PWGSC band and the singing of the national anthem by PWGSC opera singer, Jeanine Fynn.

As this year's national Champion, Mr. Guimont addressed an enthusiastic crowd of over 200 Regional employees from a cross-section of departments. In his address, he noted that the campaign is about individuals in need -- people who can be touched -- and with our support, thrive again: "Let’s bring them hope, let’s make a difference." Although our Regional campaign donations were generous and equal to the national average, Mr. Guimont stressed that they still fall short of the total GCWCC campaign need: For every $100 raised, there is a further societal demand of $300.

The 2011 Regional campaign theme is "Change Starts Here" and the event highlighted this theme with two videos showing the needs of disadvantaged seniors and how GCWCC campaign donations have helped enhance their lives. Regional Champion Catherine Lappe, RDG Health Canada Pacific and Co-Champion Alain Trépanier, RDG PWGSC Pacific, along with GSU President Bill Pleming, representing all federal Unions, spoke passionately about the needs of disadvantaged seniors, children and social issues. “We have the ability to bring change to these citizens”, says Mr. Trépanier. The PWGSC Pacific regional campaign will kick off on Monday October 3rd in both Vancouver and Victoria.
