A “feud” with good intentions

Family Feud isn’t generally associated with Alberta, the land of cowboys and rodeos. But federal employees used this popular game to round up the posse and raise money for the Alberta Capital Region’s Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC).

The campaign kicked off on September 24 in Edmonton with Randal Cripps, Prairie and Northern Regional Director General of Environment Canada, host department for the GCWCC in the region, announcing both the campaign theme “Creating Sustainable Futures” and the $1 million goal. Since then, federal employees have taken part in a number of activities including a Day of Caring initiative to raise awareness of the agencies supported through the GCWCC. Federal employees worked for a day at the Edmonton food bank and assembled comfort kits at the InKind Centre for the city’s Homeless Connect event, among other things.

Employees in the Alberta Capital Region are clearly well-informed about the needs in their community — a fact that was demonstrated in the types of answers they provided to a survey that Environment Canada sent out in preparation for the Family Feud competition. Here, the Alberta Federal Council (AFC) went head to head against oXYgen Network, with the youth network of the Government of Canada in Alberta winning by a large margin.

So far, the Alberta Capital Region GCWCC has raised $574,000. You can keep track of its progress on the GCPEDIA page, a Wikipedia-style web page to encourage federal employees to share information about the campaign.*
