Chalking up the kilometres for the GCWCC

Guess how many kilometres William Baker, Chair of the 2009 GCWCC, has logged so far since the campaign kicked off on September 10? To find out, look below.

In his desire to get the message out, the Deputy Minister of Public Safety Canada has travelled from one end of the country to the other, visiting government employees in four regions so far.

To the campaign volunteers and managers, his presence demonstrated support for their own efforts, helped to inject extra energy into the local campaigns and showed how important the GCWCC is to strengthening communities across Canada.

“Mr. Baker made strong links between the GCWCC, community contribution and public service values,” remarked one regional campaign volunteer. Other positive comments included: “his trip was the essence of leadership” and “he showed that upper management involvement makes a key difference in the GCWCC.”

Mr. Baker’s visits to Vancouver, Winnipeg, Moncton and Regina weren’t all speeches and meet-and-greets. He joined more than 100 people at a pancake breakfast and visited a seniors’ centre in Vancouver, cheered on participants in a bus pull in Winnipeg, took part in Regina’s official campaign kick-off, and helped to launch the Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick campaign, including touring the local YMCA.

Four regional stops with a significant impact — one that will be sure to have a positive effect on the campaign.
