how to give
Check out the options below to see how you can give back to your community through the GCWCC.
FILL OUT A GIFT FORM
All federal public servants can make a donation to the annual GCWCC by completing a gift form, which is available in all federal workplaces across the country during the annual September to November campaign period.
There are several options when making a gift. You can choose to give through payroll deduction, which allows you to spread your gift over the entire year. Your donation will appear on your T4 slip so you don’t have to keep track of multiple receipts. Or you can give through cash or cheque.
Planned giving
GIVING THAT REFLECTS YOUR VALUES AND PRIORITIES
GCWCC connects donors with issues that matter. We’re here to match
your interests to specific needs in your community and nation-wide. And
we do so by offering choices. Our Planned Giving and Major Gifts
programs allow you to effectively contribute to a number of programs and
organizations through gifts of securities, gifts of life insurance and
bequests.
MAKING A BEQUEST: ACTING TODAY FOR TOMORROW
A will is much more than a legal document. It is a testimony to one’s inner will — the central values and commitments that have emerged from a lifetime of learning, growing and working. Leaving a bequest to a United Way/Centraide, Healthpartners or another Canadian charity is a very flexible way of giving.
- You can make a bequest anonymously, and you have the flexibility to change it at any time.
- A bequest provides the comfort of knowing your assets are still available to you today if needed.
- Your estate will receive a valuable tax credit for your final tax return.
GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE: AN INVESTMENT IN TODAY AND TOMORROW
By naming a United Way/Centraide, HealthPartners or another Canadian charity as owner and beneficiary on your life insurance policy or a registered plan such as a RRSP or RRIF, you ensure that any proceeds go directly to the organization of your choice.
- Give an already paid-up policy and receive a donation receipt for the cash value of the policy.
- Give an existing policy on which premiums are still being paid and, in return, receive a receipt for the cash value of the policy and subsequent premium payments.
- Purchase a new policy and receive a tax receipt for all payments on the premiums.
- Make a future gift of $125,000 for a total net cost of only $10,500.
YOUR GIFT MAKES A DIFFERENCE: GIFTS OF SECURITIES
Donating securities is one way you can help to change lives. Eligible stocks and securities include publicly traded stocks, bonds, bills, warrants, futures, units in mutual trust funds and shares acquired through employee stock options.
- You can donate appreciated securities without paying any capital gains tax, and you receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares.
- You can leave stock or securities to United Way/Centraide, Healthpartners or another Canadian charity through the GCWCC in your will, thereby reducing the tax burden on your estate.
- You can make a gift of $5,000 and receive a tax receipt in that amount with shares purchased for $2,000.
